(Ecns.cn)--A murderer that had gone into hiding has been captured by the police after he was identified on a dating show in May, the Guangzhou-based Yangcheng Evening News reported on July 10.
A male guest named Liu Hao took part in Kuai Le Da Lian Meng, or the Happiness Union, a dating show on Heilongjiang Satellite TV last November. On the show, he successfully won a lady's heart with his dancing, singing, and display of romantic courtship - kneeling down and presenting the woman with flowers.
However, a woman in May reported to police that Liu Hao was originally named Wu Gang and had killed 24-year-old Sun Jun in a dispute in Jilin, located in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province, but escaped 13 years ago.
Wu was married and had a seven-year old son in 1998, when the murder happened.
The police found many similarities after comparing Wu Gang's photo to the video of the so-called Liu Hao. Meanwhile, the ages of both were also identical.
By contacting Heilongjiang Satellite TV, the police got "Liu's" mobile phone number and QQ name, a popular Chinese instant messaging tool. The police also found a large number of photos and the contact information for a wedding celebration company, which turned out to be false, in Liu's personal blog on QQ.
Wu Gang was arrested by the police on June 9 and he admitted his guilt.
When asked by police why he would dare to go on a provincial-level TV show even though he was a wanted criminal, Wu said he took part in the dating show in order to promote his business in the wedding industry. "I had almost forgotten my true identity by this point," he told the police.
Sun Jun, who was killed by Wu 13 years ago, was the only child in his family. His mother had been racked with grief since her son's death.
As it happens, the other male guest on the dating show, who was defeated by Liu Hao, was a local bailiff.
