(Ecns.cn)--"I was shocked to see cars registered in China today in Paris. I caught up with them, only to find that they drove all the way here from Xiamen, Fujian Province, passing several countries including Russia and Italy," tweeted someone on July 29.
The tweets soon stirred an online sensation. The "crazy" self-driving tourists are two Chinese guys, both in their 30s, who have driven 50 days to Paris with two SUVs, reported the Yangtse Evening Post.
The two started their tour on June 9 and arrived in Paris on July 29. They are reportedly driving back on August 4. The whole backward journey will take 55 days and cover 22,000 kilometers across Europe and Asia.
Lin Wenbao, one of the two, said that they planned a 22,000-kilometer journey as early as the Chinese New Year, in which they planned to drive through Russia, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in northern Europe and some countries in southern Europe and southwestern Europe, and finally stop in London or Paris.
There were seven of them at the very beginning. But five quit on the way due to health problems. Lin and Wu Guozhou are the only two who completed the crazy journey.
"Our daily schedule was relaxed," said one of the seven. "We drove about 400 kilometer per day, not very tiring."
The cost per person is about 100,000 yuan ($15,500),according to reporters of the Yangtse Evening Post.
