(Ecns.cn)--It is understandable for people to be nervous about changes in their lives, even for the good ones, like getting married or having a baby, but fainting because your daughter is born is a little extreme.
Su Jian (alias), a 30-year-old man in Zhejiang, East China's Jiangsu Province, was rushed to the Emergency Room after blacking out in a hospital elevator out of fear after his daughter was born on July 25.
His family said Su has been under stress since his wife became pregnant, fearing his status as the focus of the family would be replaced by his child.
According to the family, Su is the only child and treated as a prince by his parents. He was anxious of the fact that he was going to be a father and all the attention of his wife and parents would be transferred to the newly born child.
"I became nervous when I first heard my child would be born in July," Su told Yangtze Evening News in an interview. "Sometimes I had pains in my chest as if I was going to die."
Su was at home sleeping when his daughter was born in the early hours of July 25 – fearing he would act hysterically, family members did not even bring the news to him until 6 a.m.
Getting the courage to drive to the hospital, Su felt a shortness of breath and eventually lost consciousness in the elevator. He was later diagnosed with an emotional breakdown by the doctor treating him, while there was nothing wrong with his cardiovascular system.
"As the only child, Su was obsessed with the thought that his daughter would take his position as the center of the family; nevertheless, his reaction is still quite extreme," said Zhang Changchun, the doctor treating Su.
Su said he is feeling much better now after consulting with a doctor. Dr. Zhang asked his family to be supportive of him and suggested Su take anti-anxiety medication.
