(Ecns.cn)--Four university students in Taipei, Taiwan, robbed two people early in the morning on July 29 to "cheer themselves up," but were caught by local police 14 hours later, according to the Hong Kong China News Agency.
The students, all around the age of 20, came up with the idea at a party on July 28. Later that night they began driving around in search of victims when they came across a couple in a garden. The man was teaching his girlfriend to drive a motorcycle at the time.
The four students got out of the car and shouted at the couple, then started hitting the man with sticks before running off with the girl's handbag.
After they left, the girl called the police and sent her boyfriend to the hospital. He suffered a slight concussion.
Local police checked the surveillance tape from the garden and arrested the students 14 hours later. The students told police that they hadn't met the couple before, but only wanted to do something special to cheer themselves up.
They students may face prison sentences of up to seven years or more.
