(Ecns.cn)--A woman attempting to commit suicide by throwing herself into the West Lake in Hangzhou was rescued by an American tourist on Thursday afternoon, said the local Morning Express.
"It happened so fast that the suicide struck us all dumb, but two American tourists-one male and the other female quickly undressed themselves for the rescue," a witnessed recalled. "Then the foreign woman dove into the water and swam to the drowning Chinese."
Only after the successful rescue did many residents realize the whole incident. They called local police and tried to express gratitude to the couple, who introduced themselves as American tourists. The foreign heroes then quietly left the site after the police arrived.
"Due to the difficulties in communication, I didn't get their names," sighed Hu Longqiang, a security guard at the scenic spot.
