(Ecns.cn)--With a tangible office located in "Space City" in Beijing, and a virtual office set up on the manned spacecraft, China's first space post office opened for business Thursday, according to reports Friday.

The zip code for this post office is 901001, and the current function of the post office is to not only deliver to astronauts mail from the public, from both the domestic and international community, but also to sell postal souvenirs that record China's major astronautic events.

The post office is designed and administrated by the China Post Group (CPG) and operated by the Beijing Post Corporation. Besides the major function, the tangible space post office will try to organize more public activities to publicize space knowledge, said Li Guohua, general manager of CPG.

According to reports and information from Li, Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut in outer space, is the chief of the space post office.

The establishment of the post office comes as China's two spacecrafts, the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft and Tiangong 1 space module, successfully accomplished a space docking procedure on the same day. Souvenirs have been released to commemorate the historical even.
