(Ecns.cn)--A Finnish man has stirred an Internet sensation by practicing Tai Chi at a zebra pedestrian crossing in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, in an effort to stop traffic for people trying to cross the street.

Dubbed "foreign uncle" by netizens, Ma Ruinan (his Chinese name) has been working as a language teacher in the city for 11 years and became frustrated with Chinese drivers who refuse to slow down or stop for people crossing the street, reported the China Daily.

"Tai Chi is so graceful and deliberate. But why are Chinese drivers always in a hurry? Isn't it common sense for cars to stop for pedestrians?" he said during an interview with China Daily on Monday.

"Foreign uncle is so cute. We definitely need more people like him," commented a Web user. "I hope there will be more 'Chinese uncles' in the future," said another.

According to traffic police, vehicles should slow down and make way for pedestrians at junctions with no traffic lights, but in most cases drivers do not slow down.
