(Ecns.cn) – Zhang Yali has spent three months making a giant bicycle with parts from second-hand markets and plans to ride it from Northeast China's Jilin to South China's Shenzhen, where he intends to give it to his son as a special gift.
On December 25, Zhang took the massive bike for its first test drive. It weighs about 1 ton, stands at a height of more than 3.2 meters and is 5.5 meters long, he said. From a distance, it even looks like a robot from the "Transformers."
Zhang said the vehicle parts were collected from used-car markets and flea markets, including its two wheels, which came from old forklift trucks. By welding them together meticulously, the bicycle is solidly built, he added.
Zhang revealed that he wants to inspire his son, who graduated from the China Academy of Art and is now working at a company in Shenzhen designing Chinese animation.
