Local young women take more exercise and are more conscious of their health than men, a study has found.
In the survey of 2,000 people in Shanghai by the No. 411 Hospital of People's Liberation Army, 74 percent of women aged between 20 and 35 said they played badminton, tennis or did yoga.
But just 28 percent of men said they exercise. Almost 65 percent prefer staying at home to watch TV or play computer games, the survey found.
And while 80 percent of young women said they'd had a health checkup within the last two years, the figure was only 30 percent among men.
According to doctors, the obesity rates among Shanghai men have been rising.
