A meeting was held in Beijing on May 6 to promote travel to the Yili Kazak autonomous prefecture of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
Tourism officials from Yili and Beijing, as well as travel agencies attended the meeting.
"Unique natural and cultural resources have endowed Yili with huge potential for tourism development," says Tian Hong, deputy Party secretary of the autonomous prefecture.
Tian says Yili is home to the Nalat Grassland, one of the world's four biggest grasslands, the Kurdish Ning, a world-acclaimed natural heritage and Huocheng.
Tian also recommended local food, including horse meat and milk, as well as roasted lamb.
Travel to Yili has become easier.
There are daily Air China flights from Beijing to the prefecture.
Traditional trips usually take in mountains, water and flowers.
Tourists can ride horses or drive around to enjoy the sights of Yili.
