A woman in Bozhou city, Anhui province hung herself at home a day after she was beaten by a man at a road crossing, local newspaper Market Star reported on Monday.

The attack happened at 9:40 pm on April 26. Surveillance video shows that the woman, surnamed Lyu, was riding an electric bicycle and making a left turn at a crossing when she encountered a man driving an electric tricycle.

Their vehicles almost collided with each other. Exchanging words, the man stopped and walked to Lyu, knocking her to the ground with her bicycle and kicking her back and head several times before he left. Lyu offered no resistance during the assault.

According to her husband whose surname is Zhang, Lyu was on her way to pick up their son. After arriving home, she cried about the attack but refused to go to the hospital or the police. "She said she would be okay after sleeping," he said.

Zhang went out early the next morning while his wife was still sleeping. Lyu said she hadn't got up when Zhang called her at around 9:00 am. But when the husband came back in the afternoon, Lyu was found hanging at home.

Lyu had never suffered from problems in her family, Zhang said, "Maybe she just couldn't bear the suffering psychologically."

Local police have been investigating the case after the woman's death.

"Surveillance video shows that there might have been a spat between Lyu and the man before the attack was carried out," a police officer said, adding they haven't found out the whereabouts of the man.

A search notice has been issued to the public, offering a reward to those who could provide clues regarding the suspect.
