Farmers turned painters. That's what's happening in some villages of southwest China's Guizhou Province. Professional painters have been invited to open training sessions to help local farmers create their own work.
The initiative started six months ago and nearly 40 students have now joined. Twice a week the farmers, who are between 20 and 70 years old, come to class and put their ideas on canvas.
Guizhou Province boasts a rich ethnic diversity, and local authorities intend to encourage the initiative. The best works produced by the farmers will be displayed in exhibitions. There's hope now that such initiatives can boost the development of local culture.
