Canadian tourist Julie Fortin has paid compensation to the family of Cui Hongfang, 73, who died after being accidentally knocked over by Fortin, when hiking on the Great Wall on April 8. The family of the deceased woman said they received 600,000 yuan ($96,660) from Fortin on May 11, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

An agreement was reached after mediation at the Huairou District People's Court on April 20 and 21. The family said that previously they were worried that the involvement of a foreigner might lead to a more complicated process in regards to handling the case, but they reported the compensation process turned out to be a smooth one, and they expressed their gratitude to the Net users who supported them during the process.
