World renowned Chinese cellist Wang Jian gave a lecture to classical music apprentices and enthusiasts on Tuesday, at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
He is the designated artist-in-residence at this year's May Festival, the NCPA's annual event that highlights chamber music.
During the lecture, Wang shared some of his thoughts on understanding Romantic-era composers, including Schubert and Brahms, as well as memorable moments in his career performing chamber music with quartets.
He also gave a few tips to music conservatory undergraduates, and even demonstrated a bit of Bach's cello suites.
In the coming week, Wang will perform at the NCPA several times, including in a Haydn concerto with the NCPA Orchestra, as well as in a piano trio night with South Korean pianist Kim Sunwook and German-South Korean violinst Clara Sumi Jung. He will continue the piano trio tour in his hometown Shanghai, as well as in Japan.
