An ongoing signature campaign in support of selecting chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by universal suffrage in 2017 has collected 960,972 names so far, the campaign organizer announced on Saturday evening.
Organized by the Alliance for Peace and Democracy, the campaign aims at gathering Hong Kong people's support for the constitutional reform package designed for the election of the next chief executive by "one person, one vote" universal suffrage.
The package was unveiled by the Hong Kong government on April 22.
Among the signers were Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun- ying and top government officials including Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam and Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam.
The region-wide signature campaign was launched on May 9 and would run through Sunday.
