Trade between China and Colombia has grown rapidly. China is now Colombia's second biggest trading partner.[Special coverage]
According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, trade between the two countries reached more than US$15 billion in 2014. That's more than seven-hundred times the number in 1980 when diplomatic ties were established. China enjoys a trade surplus and says it's dedicated to building a balanced trade.
According to Colombian trade authorities, Colombia imported nearly US$11.8 billion worth of products from China, mostly electronic components, mechanical products, communication equipments and textiles.
Colombian exports to China have been growing three years in a row, reaching more than US$ 5.7 billion. Most of Colombian exports to China are energy ore, coffee and other agricultural products.
