Four people were killed and more than 800,000 affected by heavy rainstorms that battered south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Wednesday, the local civil affairs authority announced Sunday.

As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, about 40,000 people from nine cities had been evacuated and 60,000 hectares of crops were affected by the rainstorms, according to the regional civil affairs department.

More than 2,000 houses collapsed and over 10,000 were damaged.

Thunderstorms are expected to hit most parts of Guangxi on Sunday night and Monday and heavy rain is expected along coastal areas, according to the regional meteorological bureau.
