China and Morocco hold convergent views on regional issues, the Chinese special envoy on the Middle East issue, Gong Xiaosheng, said in Morocco late Monday.
"The choice of making Morocco the first leg in my trip to the region illustrates our interest in the position and the influence Morocco has in the region," Gong said in an interview with the official agency MAP following talks with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mbarka Bouaida.
In addition to bilateral relations, the two sides exchanged views on several regional and international issues of common interest, including the situations in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and the peace process in the Middle East.
Concerning the Libyan crisis, Gong praised Morocco's role in facilitating the political dialogue between the Libyan parties by hosting peace talks between the concerned parties.
As for the peace process in the Middle East, the two sides stressed on the urgent need to reach a final solution that will bring peace and stability to the entire region.
