The second China-Southeast Asia High- Level People-to-People Dialogue was held in Indonesia on Sunday and visiting Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended the meeting.
The dialogue, with the theme of "Closer People-To-People Exchanges for the Joint Development of the 'Belt and Road'" was also attended by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, Indonesian former parliamentary speaker Marzuki Alie, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General A.K.P. Mochtan and 200 representatives from China and 11 Southeast Asian countries.
The Chinese vice premier said that the building of the"belt and road" aims at promoting a deeper and wider regional cooperation and is well matched with Southeast Asia's expectation for prosperity and development. "The win-win 'belt and road' is believed to be a way of economic cooperation, people-to-people contact, cultural exchange as well as peace and prosperity," Liu added.
Liu said China and Southeast Asia are close neighbors geographically and people-to-people exchanges have played an important role in enhancing the bilateral relationship.
For the further development of China and Southeast Asia relations, Liu suggested that the two sides broaden the people-to- people exchanges channel and push forward the formation of exchange and cooperation network made up of think tanks, NGOs, media, industrial and commercial cycles.
On the sidelines of the dialogue, Liu met with Southeast Asian delegates' representatives and attended a "Yesterday and Today of the 'Belt and Road'" cultural exhibition.
The dialogue adopted the Declaration of Proposals on China- Southeast Asia People-to-People Exchanges and Cooperation and urged for the establishment of China-ASEAN community of common destiny.
