A crew from China National Documentary Film is currently filming for a new work, Silk Road in the New Century. The crew set off from Xi'an (Chang'an, capital of China in Han Dynasty 206 BC-AD 220) and will travel across dozens of countries along the ancient trade route before finally arriving in Milan, Italy, where the 2015 Expo is being held.
Director Gao Feng says the documentary will trace the history of the silk road and also show the culture and the changing society. It will also document the current situation of the countries and people along the Silk Road.
The Silk Road is an ancient network of trade routes connecting the West and East. It was traveled by merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China to the Mediterranean Sea. It derives its name from the lucrative trade of Chinese silk from the Han Dynasty.
