Shanghai will host one of the largest ever exhibitions of the works of Salvador Dali this fall, with 300 of the Spanish surrealist's paintings and sculptures set to go on display.
The exhibition will take place at Bund 18 from September the 26th to January the 10th. It will feature famous bronze sculptures by the artist, like "Persistence of Memory" and "Alice in Wonderland," as well as furniture like "Divan Mae West," and a huge oil painting from the Alfred Hitchcock film "Spellbound".
"All works are borrowed from the Stratton Foundation from Switzerland. The foundation's president himself was a longtime friend of Dali, as well as the only living agent for him. For those who are not familiar with Dali, we offer guides and booklets so that they won't find it too hard to understand one of the greatest abstract artists of our time," said Xie Dingwei, general manager of Tix-Media.
Tickets went on sale online today. Each costs 160 yuan, making the exhibition more expensive that last year's Monet show. But organizers say there are some discounted tickets available for 80 yuan.
"We expect the exhibition to attract about 300-thousand people in over 100 days. We will distribute about 20-thousand discounted 80-yuan tickets," said Li Feifeng, deputy general manager of gewara.com.
Dali is known around the world, and the artist's work has been displayed in more than 80 countries and regions over the past 25 years.
