Food security is a global issue and all countries should work together to promote grain production and eliminate hunger, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang said in Rome Sunday.
Noting that China has attached great importance to agriculture and food production, Wang said the country has achieved growth in grain production for 11 consecutive years, with annual output surpassing 600 million tons in the past two years.
China's efforts have improved not only the country's own food security situation, but also made a great contribution to the global fight against hunger, Wang said at an event organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
"The whole world should cooperate on food security, as it is a global issue," Wang said, adding that the world could eliminate hunger and poverty only if all countries work together.
