China and Poland are about to sign a cooperation document regarding the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, said the Polish government, caixin.com reported Tuesday.
Following Hungary, the first European country to sign a "One Belt, One Road" cooperation agreement earlier this month, Poland is also looking to strengthen its bilateral relations with China. Polish authorities said the country has prepared a memorandum of infrastructure cooperation with China involving the Eastern European country's railway and harbor construction projects.
Maciej Lachowski, an official of Poland's Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, said that the memorandum will mention railway projects that connect China's Chengdu, in Sichuan Province, and the Polish city of Lodz; and Suzhou, in Jiangsu Province, and Poland's capital city Warsaw.
Polish harbors at Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Swinoujscie were also identified as sites of future development.
The Polish authorities said the draft agreement shows both sides' intention to enhance cooperation. Both countries have agreed to exchange views and discuss their strategic plans, which is fundamental for future cooperation.
The document is currently awaiting confirmation by the Chinese government. Marek Wejtko, adviser to the Polish Ministry of Economy, said it is likely that the document will be signed when Grzegorz Schetyna, the head of Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visits China between Wednesday and Friday.
During the visit, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Schetyna will co-host the first plenary session of the China-Poland Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee.
