Two pandas will be raised in a zoo in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin Province starting July, the first time to be done in high latitude, the Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday.
The move is an attempt to expand the endangered animal's habitat, said Yu Changchun, an official from the Jilin Provincial Department of Forestry.
The two pandas, an 8-year-old male and a 7-year-old female, will live in the Jilin Provincial Siberian Tiger Park for three years under an agreement with the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda.
The zoo has built a well-equipped cage and other facilities for the pandas, and fresh bamboos will be delivered every week from Sichuan Province.
The public has been asked to name the two pandas.
