Stamp collectors and Mickey Mouse fans in Shanghai woke up early Saturday to buy the first Disney-themed stamps issued by China Post.
People were lined up for an entire block in front of stands in Jing'an Park in the morning. The first person in line arrived 12 hours before the stands opened.
Every stamp has a face value of 1.2 yuan. Its Chinese designer says he included many traditional Chinese elements.
"I used the classical three circles of Mickey Mouse and Chinese auspicious cloud. People can see from the first sight that it's a Chinese stamp. I also used colors such as gold and red to represent the best wishes," said Ni Qingfeng, the stamp designer.
An unlimited number of stamps will be sold at post offices around the city, but people were lined to get special envelopes and seals that were only available on the first day.
China Post also issued gold stamps, stamp collection books featuring Mickey and Minnie touring Shanghai, and Disney seals.
