Admissions officers for China's two most prestigious universities accused each other of attracting top applicants with cold hard cash on their Weibo account on Sunday.
The feud fired up as students who sat June's national college entrance examinations, or gaokao, apply for university.
The posts were deleted at noon Sunday.
Controversy began when the admissions team for Peking University (PKU) in Sichuan Province accused another university of calling their prospective students and falsely informing them that their applications had been rejected.
"Please stop harassing students that apply to Peking University," the PKU post read. The Sichuan-based admissions team for Tsinghua University soon replied, "Don't you worry about corrupting the young by luring them with cash?"
Many expressed disappointment in the schools' finger pointing. "Stop blaming each other! Consider me as a student, you guys, I will not ask for money!" wrote "Nizenmewangle."
