One of the nearly 500 people injured in a water park blaze on Saturday night in Taiwan died in hospital on Monday. This is the first fatality in the tragic accident.
The 20-year-old woman, surnamed Lee, suffered burns to 90 percent of her body, according to Chung Shan Medical University Hospital in the island's Taichung City.
The fire broke out as the park was staging a party that saw a large amount of theatrical colored powder ejected from a stage. The powder caught ignited before landing on the audience. More than 200 people were severely injured.
Among the injured are 204 students and one teacher, according to the island's education department.
Those burned also include two students from the Chinese mainland, five women from Hong Kong and six foreigners, said the New Taipei city health bureau.
An initial probe shows the powder could have been ignited by the heat of the lights on the stage, yet the exact cause is still being investigated.
