Rain-triggered floods and landslides in four provinces since Friday have left at least 37 people dead or missing.
Six people have died in landslides in Shangcheng County, Henan Province, where heavy rain has led to the evacuation of nearly 800 people, the collapse of 100 dwellings and damage to more than 200 buildings, according to the county's publicity office.
More than 6,700 hectares of crops have been damaged and power and communications have also been affected.
It is estimated that the weather has caused direct economic losses of 305 million yuan (about 49.9 million U.S. dollars).
In Shaanxi Province, floods have killed four people and left 13 others missing, while causing economic losses of about 900 million yuan.
A total of 451,000 people were affected and 34,000 were forced to evacuate in seven cities. The rain also caused damage to about 37,890 hectares of crops and 10,400 houses.
In Sichuan Province, two people were killed by landslides in Nanjiang County, which reported its worst floods since 1949. The disaster forced the relocation of 263,000 people across 48 townships. Another woman was killed by a landslide in Sichuan's Pengxi County.
In Bazhong City, two people were killed by rain-triggered collapse of a construction site and house. Two others are missing.
It was confirmed that five people died and two are still missing after heavy rain caused floods and landslides in Jinzhai County, Anhui Province.
The downpour has battered seven provinces and one municipality in China.
The National Meteorological Center issued a warning against rainstorms on Tuesday afternoon, forecasting that heavy rain will continue battering the provinces of Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Sichuan, as well as Chongqing Municipality, on Wednesday. (Updated)
