China captured gold medals in diving, swimming and gymnastics on Tuesday at the Gwangju Universiade, while South Korea dominated the archery competition.

Wang Anqi/Wang Yao brought the fifth diving gold for China as they claimed the gold medal in the men's 10-meter platform synchro.

The newly paired Chinese collected 467.00 points from six solid dives to win the gold, while Kim Jin-yong/Kim Yeong-nam of South Korea surpassed Egor Galperin/Igor Mialin of Russia in the last dive to clinch the silver with 402.96 points.

"There were only five pairs in the final today and I made a mistake in the fourth dive. I'm lucky it didn't affect our ranking," said Wang Anqi.

"I competed abroad before, but I think the Universiade is the happiest experience I have ever had," he added. "I paired up with Wang Yao for only one month. We didn't do good synchronization today."

China's Cen Yu, ranked first in qualification, won the men's vault out of two routines of 15.333 and 15.433 points respectively in gymnastics competition.

Zhang Sishi added the second swimming gold for China after winning the women's 200m individual medley in two minutes and 12.31 seconds, beating Cox Madisyn of the United States to the second place in 2:12:17.

"I am really excited to win this gold. Winning a gold in the intentional field is not an easy thing. I hope I can win more (golds) in the future," said Zhang, who won the national championship in 2014.

The United States took three swimming gold medals out of seven in total after winning the women's 400m freestyle, the men's 200m breaststroke and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

In the men's 50m backstroke, Japanese Hasegawa Junya touched home first in 25.25, followed by Pizzamiglio Stef of Italy in 25.43.

Masse Kylie Jacq won Canada a gold after taking the title of the women's 100m backstroke in 59.97.

Koptelov Evgeny of Russia crowned in the men's 200m butterfly in 1:54.79. Team USA set a Universiade record in 7:53.88 to win the gold of the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

South Korea, won four archery gold medals out of five on offer and Kim Jongho claimed three titles on his credit.

First, it was the men's compound team, consisted of Kim Taeyoon, Yang Youngho and Kim Jongho, beating Mexico 230-229 for the title. Then the mixed compound team followed suit by beating India 157-150.

Later, Kim Jongho teamed up with Song Yunsoo for the mixed gold medal over India's Kawalpreet Singh and Jyothi Surekha Vennam.

Kim Jongho became South Korea's archery triple gold medalist here after he beat Kim Taeyoon 147-145 in the men's compound individual showdown between the two host archers.

Song Yunsoo became the double gold medalist here as she narrowly edged off Toja Cerne of Slovenia through a shoot-off in the women's individual compound event.

Both archers scored 143 after five ends and needed a shoot-off to decide the winner. Song Yunsoo had a closest 10 to stand out though Cerne also nailed a 10.

The only archery gold left of the day went to Russia, which beat the United States 220-218 in the women's compound team.

South Korea leads the medal table with 12 golds, followed by Japan and China, both collecting nine golds.
