China's top weather observatory on Wednesday warned southeastern regions to brace for heavy rainstorms as two typhoons are set to make landfall.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast that Typhoon Linfa will hit coastal regions stretching from Shantou City in Guangdong Province, south China, to Zhangpu City in Fujian Province, east China, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Chan-hom is expected to make landfall in Fujian and neighboring Zhejiang Province late Friday.

The two typhoons are forecast to bring severe rainstorms to most parts of Taiwan, and Fujian and Zhejiang provinces on the Chinese mainland in the next four days. Downpour will also be seen in Guangdong, Jiangxi and Anhui provinces.

The heaviest rain will occur Friday night and Saturday, with up to 40 centimeters of rain in some areas, it warned.

The top flood control authority also issued a level-two emergency response on Wednesday and despatched three working teams to coordinate flood control efforts.

Shanghai is mulling the suspension of all passenger trains along the coast on Friday and Saturday, according to the Shanghai Railway Bureau.

Fifteen counties in Guangdong have also closed elementary and middle schools as Linfa approaches.
