Xi made the remarks during a dialogue between leaders of the SCO members and observers, EEU leaders, leaders of invited countries and the BRICS nations, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa after the 7th BRICS summit held in Ufa, capital of Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan.

With the theme of bettering people's livelihood for the dialogue, the leaders talked on unity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.

In his speech, Xi said the BRICS, the SCO and the EEU are influential mechanism of cooperation in the world, and the gathering itself has sent out a positive signal of unity and cooperation among the emerging markets and developing countries.

Despite different history, culture and social system, those countries share common missions of improving economy, safeguarding stability and bettering people's livelihood, said the Chinese president.

These countries should look at their ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, and work together to forge a partnership featuring win-win cooperation with a view to a big picture featuring enduring security, win-win development, multi-divisional connectivity and inclusive development.

Briefing the leaders on China's Belt and Road initiatives, including the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund, Xi said there is much convergence between the development strategies of many countries and the initiatives. He suggested these countries cooperate with each other in pursuit of common development.

The other leaders noted that the Eurasian continent abounds with resources and has a large number of emerging economies. BRICS countries share similar development missions with other countries in the region, said the leaders, adding that the communication among them will help the international society jointly deal with challenges and is conducive to the process of multi-polarization.

They agreed that the countries should be committed to safeguarding regional peace and stability, eliminating poverty, enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration, expanding trade and investment, improving self-competitiveness through mutually beneficial cooperation and enhancing people's livelihood.

They pledged to jointly fight transnational crimes, such as terrorism and drug trafficking, adding that it is necessary for BRICS countries, SCO member states and countries in the Eurasian region to strengthen people-to-people exchanges, which will help promote understanding and friendship among peoples of the countries concerned.
