A heatwave is currently sweeping through most of northeast China, bringing unusually high temperatures for this time of year in the region.
Weather authorities in Jilin Province have issued a heat alert for four straight days now. On Thursday, the temperature in the provincial capital of Changchun surged above 34 degrees Celsius, a record high for the past 15 years.
Few people were seen in the streets, as most residents sought refuge from the heat indoors. The city's zoo animals didn't have that luxury but their keepers did their best to keep them cool with iced fruit and showers.
Temperatures in the province are expected to go down, with rains forecast for Friday night.
