China on Saturday voiced strong opposition and dissatisfaction over a U.S. State Department statement that condemns Thailand's repatriation of over 100 illegal immigrants to China.
"The U.S. statement has ignored facts and is full of political bias, and it serves as a connivance in illegal immigration and smuggling and a violation of relevant international treaties and laws," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying in a statement.
China has lodged solemn representations with the United States regarding the issue, she said.
The U.S. statement was reported as saying the action runs counter to Thailand's international obligations as well as its long-standing practice of providing safe haven to vulnerable persons, urging Thailand to stop further deportations.
"We urge the U.S. to have a correct view of China's efforts in addressing illegal emigration, stop making wrong comments and safeguard the healthy and stable growth of China-U.S. relations," Hua said.
