Five people died after a semitrailer collided with an SUV on Wednesday in northwest China's Qinghai Province, according to local authorities.
The accident happened at around 11 a.m. in Xinghai County in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Hainan, according to a statement from the provincial public security department.
Three people aboard the SUV were killed on the spot and two others in the vehicle later died in the hospital, according to the statement.
A preliminary investigation showed that the semitrailer, with a designed capacity of 33 tonnes, was carrying 75 tonnes of goods when the crash occurred, while the SUV was not overloaded.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
