Over 3,000 firearms have been seized in north China's Hebei Province by July 24, 2015, since local police launched a crackdown on guns and explosives one month ago.
Xinhua News Agency cites Zhang Shiliang, Deputy Director of Hebei Provincial Security Department to report that so far, 3,135 guns, along with 88,403 bullets, have been seized, including 2,305 air rifles and 460 shotguns.
494 cases related to guns or explosives have been resolved in the past month, with 401 people punished. Roughly one third of the cases have been reported by the general public.
Beyond conducting investigations in traditional areas like mines, forests and markets, the police also carried out online investigations.
Zhang Shiliang also says that Hebei police have collaborated with police forces in neighboring regions to carry out the missions.
