Beijing, together with Zhangjiakou, won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, and the news exhilarated the Chinese athletes, coaches and Chinese Americans at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Chinese athletes competing in 2015 LA Special Olympics on Saturday exalted Beijing's success.
"We are very excited when we hear the good news, and I think our country has the ability to hold the Winter Olympics well. Furthermore, it can also promote winter sports for people with intellectual disabilities," said Chen Yuping, the leader for the Chinese Pingpong team for the special Olympics.
Pan Zhiming, the president of Macao's Special Olympics Committee, told Xinhua that he was very glad to hear Beijing's win.
"Every Chinese should be proud of this honor, and everyone who worked for this honor should receive some applause," he added.
Hong Kong's special athletic association executive member Ye Xihuo said: "As a Chinese, I feel very proud (that my country will hold the 2022 Winter Olympics). It is a great win, and I will watch Team China's performance on TV at that time."
Zhang Sujiu, the leader of Roundtable of Chinese-American Organization said that it was not easy for Beijing to hold an excellent Summer Olympics and win the chance to host a Winter Olympics, which is a reward to Chinese people's effort of promoting Olympic spirit and cultivating love for sports.
"Last night, all of us were waiting in front of the television, and when I heard 'Beijing' was announced, I was so moved that tears springing in my eyes. We opened a bottle of Champagne to celebrate," said Zhang.
"I was a member of my middle school's ice-skating team; Winter Olympics can encourage teenagers to actively engage in winter sports, which will be helpful in popularize the sports and improve Chinese teenagers' physical fitness," he added.
