Signing up for one of the lead roles in Chinese World War II film The Last Race, British actor Joseph Fiennes recently arrived in Beijing after finishing shoots in Canada and the U.S.
Set during China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), The Last Race follows the story of a Chinese man and foreign prisoners in a Japanese concentration camp.
Hong Kong director, producer and scriptwriter Stephen Shin, known for Heart to Hearts (1988) and King of Western Chu (1994), is taking the reins as the film's director.
Shin first became involved in the project 10 years ago when he learned of Eric Liddell, a Scottish athlete who died in a civilian internment camp in China in 1945. Shin thought Liddell's story would "not only a make good film script, but also educate today's young people who are gradually forgetting history."
Famous for his roles like William Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love and Sir Robert Dudley in Elizabeth, Fiennes will portray the famous athlete.
