New airline routes between China and Australia will soon begin as part of the free trade agreement recently ratified by the two countries.
Flights between Xiamen and Fuzhou in the south eastern Fujian Province and Sydney are predicted to bring more visitors to New South Wales (NSW) each year.
China is the fastest growing source of tourists to Australia and the local industry increasingly caters to the rapidly growing and evolving market.
NSW Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said Chinese airline XiamenAir will fly to Sydney from November, in time for the busy holiday and Chinese New Year period.
"I'm delighted to welcome XiamenAir which will fly to Sydney for the first time, bringing even more visitors from China to our great State," Ayres said in a statement on Wednesday.
Sydney is the first city in Australia to secure new routes between China and Australia since the expansion of the bilateral arrangements.
The five new weekly flights will comprise three flights each week from Fuzhou, and two weekly flights from Xiamen. Both cities are located in Fujian Province, which has a population of almost 38 million.
