Australia's Deputy Prime Minister has announced that an Australian aviation expert will remain in France, as international investigations continue into the whereabouts of missing flight MH370.

The announcement follows news that the flaperon discovered on Reunion Island near the east coast of Africa was in fact from the missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777.

Warren Truss said as the search begins to yield results, particularly as the piece of wreckage was confirmed to be from the missing jetliner, Australia will continue to play a crucial role.

"Our expert from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) remains in France and will continue to aid the international investigation team."

Truss confirmed ocean currents could have moved the floating debris from Australia's search area, saying the "thorough and methodical" search efforts would continue.

"The finding of wreckage on La Runion is consistent with our current search area. For this reason thorough and methodical search efforts will continue in the defined search area," Truss said.
