A senior official with the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from public office for taking bribes, according to the CPC's anti-graft watchdog on Friday.

Li Liang, former head of the CSRC's investor protection bureau, was in "breach of integrity and self-discipline rules to have taken money and gifts, and accepted bribes to take advantage of his posts to seek benefits for others," according to investigation results of the CSRC's anti-graft organ, posted on the website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Li's acts "severely violated laws and discipline and his suspected criminal issues have been handed to judicial organs," the statement added.
