Japan's NHK says that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to include the words 'apology' and 'aggression' in his statement marking the 70th anniversary of World War Two's end. [Special coverage]
Abe has been discussing the draft statement with senior members of his party and coalition parter Komeito. The draft is also expected to contain the words "deep remorse " and "colonial rule". All were used in statements by then Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama in 1995 and Junichiro Koizumi a decade later.
