A Chinese medical team kicked off a free eye surgical treatment program in Yangon on Wednesday, the fourth of its kind in the country.
Jointly organized by the China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) and Myanmar Alinyaung (Brightness) Foundation ( MAF), the Chinese medical team is conducting a five-day surgical treatment on 200 cataract patients.
The program was launched at the Myodaw Medical Center.
"The fourth free eye surgical treatment represents one of the cooperations in health sector between the two countries," Dr Nay Lin, chairman of MAF said.
"We hope for the friendly undertakings between the two countries as much as possible. We are trying for the enhancement of mutual understanding, charitable exchanges and friendly relationship between the two countries," Deputy Chief Secretary of CFPD Yu Xiaoxuan said.
The CFPD introduced its first "Brightness Action" in Myanmar in May and June 2011.
Under "Brightness Action" project, Chinese medical team has conducted free cataract surgery on 791 patients in four successive years since 2011.
In October 2012, the China-Myanmar International Ophthalmic Center was set up in Yangon, providing training to Myanmar medical staff.
CFPD is a nationwide non-profit organization established in January 2011 in Beijing.
