The electric network load in Beijing climbed up to 18.56 million kilowatt-hours at 1 p.m. on August 13, due to hot weather with high humidity, breaking the record of 18.43 million kilowatt-hours on the previous day, Beijing Morning Post reported.
The network is still operating steadily thus far, according to State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company.
"The main reason for the rapid increase of the network load is high temperatures for consecutive days," said Li Jie, chief engineer of dispatch control center at the company. "Power used for air conditioning and other heat solutions accounts for 41 percent of all the network load. Our company has launched a level 3 warning and emergency response for two days and will take action to secure the power supply."
