The Beijing authorities have announced limits on the use of radio signals and mobilized locals to patrol the city's every street, as the city braces itself for a slew of measures ahead of the parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the War against Japanese Aggression (1937-45) on September 3. The government has announced that the use of wireless Internet and radio signals will be banned in neighborhoods near Tiananmen Square from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. on September 3.
Also, amateur radio stations, campus broadcasting stations and the use of radio signals for a variety of purposes including remote-controlled planes will be forbidden citywide, the Beijing government said.
A total of 850,000 residents will take on public security responsibilities from August 22 until September 3, according to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
"People need to patrol each alley and they should be arranged in some important places such as shopping centers and markets. They have to report to the police if potential dangers were found," the bureau said.
