Eastern China is on high alert for an approaching typhoon expected to bring gales and rainstorms with alerts issued in both Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.
Authorities in Fujian say Typhoon Swan will bring preliminary rains rain to central and northern parts of the province from Sunday to Monday afternoon. Swan is expected to move over the East China Sea on Sunday evening.
The province has recalled tens of thousands of fishing boats to port before the storm makes landfall. Neighboring Zhejiang Province has also warned of strong winds and heavy rain. Persistent rain has been lashing the province for days, causing dozens of reservoirs to exceed flood warning levels.
