The Lithuanian government on Wednesday appointed Ina Marciulionyte as the country's new ambassador to China.
The decision will have to be confirmed by a decree by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.
Marciulionyte served as Lithuania's ambassador and permanent delegate to UNESCO in Paris from 2003 to 2009. Recently, she was the head of Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
If approved by the president, Marciulionyte will replace current ambassador Lina Antanaviciene in the leading post of Lithuania's embassy in Beijing on Sept. 21.
Lithuania's presence in China is closely watched by the Baltic country's exporters who hope to gain more market access to China. The two countries pledged to further strengthen economic cooperation during China's Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli's visit in June this year.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and China were established in September 1991. The embassy of Lithuania was established in Beijing in 1995.
