Colleges and schools will hold activities at the start of the autumn semester, which begins on or after on Sept. 1, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II.[Special coverage]

The events will also focus on China's war against Japanese aggression, so that students "remember history" and "cherish peace," according to a statement released Thursday by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and the Ministry of Education.

All schools will hold flag-raising ceremonies during which students will sing the national anthem, salute and swear allegiance to the flag, the statement said.

Other activities suggested included visits to memorial sites, film screenings and selected reading lists. Students will also be encouraged to use their social media accounts to post about V-Day.

Students will be encouraged to watch the military parade on Sept. 3 and listen to President Xi Jinping's speech, it said.
