Some of the gasoline stations of one of China's major petroleum companies will be suspended temporarily in Beijing during next month's military parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, a company spokesman told the Global Times. [Special coverage]
All gas stations located in Dongcheng district, Xuanwumen area in Xicheng district and the financial area close to Chang'an Avenue where the parade will be held, are to be closed for "internal renovation" on September 3, the Beijing Daily reported.
"The details may still change," a spokesman from SINOPEC's Beijing branch told the Global Times, adding that further details on the arrangement may be announced on Friday.
An employee surnamed Zhang, who works at a gas station owned by PetroChina Beijing Yanbin Co. on Guanghua Road near Chang'an Avenue, told the Global Times Thursday that the gas station will be closed from 8 am on September 1 to 8 am on September 4 due to the parade.
Zhang said that the company's decision will help ensure a smooth parade.
Beijing has tightened measures to ensure that the upcoming parade runs smoothly. Traffic along major roads around the Tiananmen Square will be restricted during the day.
