Five people, including a child, died when a boat capsized in Sichuan Province, southwest China, on Saturday, the local publicity department said Monday.
The boat, which was carrying 12 people, overturned in Longwangtan Reservoir in Jiange County at around 3 p.m., according to a press release issued by Jiange Publicity Department.
Eight people were rescued but one, a girl, later died. Four bodies were retrieved Sunday.
The boat was driven by Zan, an employee of the county's water bureau. All the passengers were his relatives.
Zan had been working at the reservoir on Saturday. He left the office to take his relatives out on the water in a boat that belonged to the reservoir's engineering team.
Zan has been detained by the police, it said.
