Ghana skipper and Shanghai SIPG striker Asamoah Gyan has been nominated for the 2015 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Footballer of the Year award on October 3.
The awards and dinner night which will take place at the Banquet Hall of the State House was launched in Accra on Tuesday.
Gyan will face stiff competition for the coveted award from Andre Ayew and Harrison Afful, both fellow Black Stars in Ghana's senior national male soccer team.
Gyan is the favorite to win the award after scoring 13 goals in 17 games to help his former club Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates to win the 2014-2015 league title and was also adjudged the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) AFC Foreign Player of the Year.
This year's SWAG Awards, which is sponsored by communication giants MTN, is expected to confer honors on over 25 sports men and women drawn from 15 sporting disciplines and five institutions for their contribution to the development of sports in the country in 2014.
Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, who is a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA football committees, will receive special award for his contribution to the development of the game, especially at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Other stakeholders who have played various roles in the development and promotion of sports will be honored.
Winners will receive trophies, medals, certificates, products from corporate sponsors among other attractive prizes on the night as prizes for their efforts.
The grand event is expected to attract a number of international sports personalities and other high profile individuals.
